Lead Minister Search Team

On Sunday, April 11, Collin Packer announced that he would be stepping down as Lead Minister at Greenville Oaks after serving in that position for the past seven years. Collin is making this change to pursue the calling God has placed on his heart to advocate for greater racial and social justice and equity. While we are incredibly sad to see Collin leave, we are excited to see what God will do through Collin and this passion.

The Greenville Oaks elders have created a Lead Minister Search Team to help us identify our next Lead Minister. Team members include Bryan Brokaw (Team Lead), Acacia Browne, Troie Burch, Tommy Doan, Doug Key, Lois Lindsey, Paula Macon, Keith Maloney, Mark Mimms, Wes Rasbury, and Tim Woodbridge.

You are invited to contact the Search Team with questions or with other information. Please join us for a season of prayer, not only for the Packer family, but also for this team and the candidate (and their family) whom God has already selected to serve alongside us at Greenville Oaks.

Lead Minister Search Updates

Updated January 16

From Bryan Brokaw, Team Lead, Lead Minister Search Committee

Our search team handed our recommendation to the elders last week. At this time, the elders will take our recommendation and begin their interview process. While we feel this is an exciting step in the search, there is still work to be done.

We ask that you please continue to pray for this process and specifically the elders and their spouses as they move toward a final decision.

On behalf of the search team, I want to say thank you for your prayers and encouragement over the past seven months. This church is a special place, and we have been so honored to serve on this team.

Updated December 19

From Bryan Brokaw, Team Lead, Lead Minister Search Committee

Our team began our face to face interviews two weeks ago. We will continue the work of calling references and coordinating future meetings with candidates as necessary to complete the process in the coming months. Our team will break for the next two weeks due to Christmas, but we will be back at it after the new year.

Scheduling and logistics can take time, and sometimes it does not move at the pace we desire, but we are so excited for the work we have accomplished and careful to trust in God’s timing. Our team feels a great responsibility to those we represent, and your patience during this time of discernment is greatly appreciated. We ask that you please continue to pray for the search process and all those involved.

Should you have any questions, please reach out to me at bcbrokaw@gmail.com. I look forward to sharing our next update in mid to late January.

Have a blessed Christmas!

Announced November 14

From Bryan Brokaw, Team Lead, Lead Minister Search Committee

Our search for a new Lead Minister continues to progress. Our committee will be meeting with the remaining prospective candidates in the coming weeks. As we continue to move forward in the process, our team will continue to meet weekly as we fine tune our timeline and logistics necessary to make a recommendation to the elders.

I want to say thank you again for the patience and trust you have shown our committee during this process. While times of transition are challenging, we have felt your prayers and encouragement; and we take great comfort in knowing that God is leading this search.

It has been six months since the elders announced the formation of a search committee. In that time, I have asked our team to vet through an initial list of 38 prospective candidates; listen to a countless number of sermons; scour the internet for available public information; contact references; and coordinate meetings all while attempting to respect the sensitive and confidential nature of this type of effort. I am so thankful for this search committee and the work they have committed to accomplish.

We knew going into it that the last Lead Minister search took nine months. While we don't know how long it will take this time, I am excited about the progress that we have seen, and I look forward to updating you again on Sunday, December 19.

Please reach out to me at bcbrokaw@gmail.com should you have any questions or concerns.

We are entering into the next phase of our church process and we have narrowed the field as a result. In the last few weeks, we have been in communication with the candidates and we are excited to begin the next month or so where not only the team, but also the candidates will be evaluating this opportunity to make sure it is a good fit.

We want to invite each of you to a prayer and worship gathering this Wednesday night in the Worship Center at 7:00 p.m. We will lift up to God this time of transition for the church, but also the transition that our next lead minister will also be entering. We have felt your prayers and encouragement throughout this process. We look forward to being together with those who are available on Wednesday.

As always, we are available for questions and feedback, so please reach out to me at bcbrokaw@gmail.com. I look forward to sharing our next update on Sunday, November 14.

From Bryan Brokaw, Team Lead, Lead Minister Search Committee

Since my last update, our committee began the process of evaluating 36 prospective candidates to serve as our next Lead Minister. We have combined as a group to listen to hundreds of hours of sermons; and we have prayerfully narrowed our list from 36 to 16.

We are meeting weekly this fall, and are working hard to cut the list down to a number that will allow us to begin the full vetting process.

We ask that you pray for wisdom and guidance for our team. Pray for our church as we seek to commit to one another. Pray for the leader God is preparing to partner with our church family. And pray for all those who choose to take on God’s calling as a minister.

Watch for more details about a prayer gathering that will take place in October.

We are so thankful for your commitment to be ALL IN at Greenville Oaks. We certainly want to hear from you. Should you have any questions or feedback, please send me an email at bcbrokaw@gmail.com. Thank you for the support and encouragement you have given the committee. I look forward to sharing our next update on Sunday, October 17.

My name is Bryan Brokaw, and it was a great honor to be asked by the elders to serve as the team lead for the the search committee for our next Lead Minister at Greenville Oaks. Our committee has met almost every other week since the beginning of June. We feel it is important to keep you regularly updated on our progress throughout the process.

Currently we are working through our evaluation and screening process. We are excited to already have more than 25 prospective names on our list that we will begin vetting in the coming weeks.

A great deal of work lies ahead for the search team, but we are thankful and find rest in the knowledge that God is in control. We would ask for your continued prayers for not only the committee and the search process, but also for continued prayers for those currently leading the church and those who God is preparing to lead the church in the future.

This web page will provide updates on the search, as well as a link to contact team members. Please feel free to reach out to one of us at any time if you have questions or want to send a word of encouragement.

It truly is a blessing to serve on this committee that the elders appointed to serve our church family. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for this incredible place.
