Origins According to Luke
Our culture is obsessed with origin stories. From superheroes' origin stories, to the origin of the cosmos, to heroes in the real world, we want to know where the great ones came from. And yet, many of us are embarrassed of our own origin stories.
Jesus came from somewhere and he owned it. He never lost sight of others who were born on the underside of the empire. He came from a sordid line of screw-ups, but he wasn't embarrassed by it. He owned it. And when he owned his origins and accepted his identity as the beloved Son of God in his baptism, he was freed to act boldly in his secure identity.
He knew who he was. And we must know who we are to become like Jesus.
