Greg Pirtle

Family Minister

My faith has always been part of who I am. Early on I learned from my parents what it means to live with integrity and consistency, to love God and others. God blessed me with a great family who taught me, nurtured me, encouraged me and disciplined me in ways that showed me Christ. It wasn't so much what they said, but more about what they did. My family wasn't perfect, but it was good, and I'm thankful for that. My church family was highly influential in shaping me to live a faithful life, and I am grateful for each person that's played a positive role in my life.

Even with all these blessings, I've endured difficulties on my journey. I learned the pain of losing someone you love when I lost my mom to cancer several years ago. I still miss her! I know the isolation that comes with doubt because I experienced a crisis of faith a few years back, but God delivered me through my darkness. I have a tendency toward worry and fear that tries to derail me, but God calls me to walk in faith, and that's what I try to do. What you see is what you get with me, and through God's grace I keep living and serving in the name of Jesus.

After growing up in Houston (a place I still love), I attended Abilene Christian University where I graduated with a degree in youth and family ministry. During my sophomore year I met a beautiful girl, Alison, who was so different from anyone I had ever met (in a good way). She is my best friend and a great encourager. We were married in 2000 and I began work as a full-time minister a week after the wedding. Since then, God has given us two gifts of great joy in our daughters, Morgan and Madeline. I am crazy about those two and am constantly thrilled and amazed that I get to be their daddy!

I have completed Masters Degrees in Christian Ministry and in Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation. My belief is that Christians should lead the way in peacemaking and I want to see that become a reality. I like the idea of being a bridge builder when it comes to relationships, sharing the message that all can experience reconciliation with God and one another.

It's been a blessing to serve at Greenville Oaks since 2007. I love working with families because I believe that there is no greater place to witness and experience the love and grace of God than in the home. When the church and home are working together it creates a powerful environment for spiritual growth in all of our lives. My dream is to see Greenville Oaks as a church that encourages, equips and empowers all families to be formed into the image of Christ.
