I am a native Texan. I grew up in Waco, Cameron, and Abilene. I am the big brother of Lora (McGinn) and Jeff. My first memories of church were being with my family each Sunday as my dad preached at small congregations in the vicinity of Waco; notably, Riesel and Bynum. We spent Sunday afternoons in church member homes. These Sunday afternoons in the country were a lot of fun for three city kids. Summer Gospel Meetings were an annual event in Bynum. The summer nightly drive with the visiting preacher or song leader from Waco was a spiritually uplifting time. We would just sing and sing the old time gospel songs the entire drive each evening.
My family has always been involved in church wherever we lived. I always enjoyed “church” and still do. I am one who really appreciates our annual summer gospel singing and ice cream supper. I appreciate the heritage of Churches of Christ and my church experiences. I became a Christian at an early age and I just wish I had understood more fully the grace and love of Jesus as a teenager. I wish I had comprehended the unquestionable trust in God that I more fully understand now and the fact that God is in complete control of me, this world, and His Kingdom. I don’t understand everything that happens to me and others, but I know God has a much higher and longer view than I and He knows what is best for you and for me.
I married Donna Rea after meeting at ACU. We have three children, two daughters-in-law, and four wonderful grandchildren. God has richly blessed our family. Donna is a retired Lovejoy ISD teacher. I am retired from Alliance Bank. We are charter members of Greenville Oaks Church of Christ (formerly Allen Church of Christ). I have served as an elder since 2002. Currently I serve on the Shepherding Team.
